Shackle Options
The purpose of the shackle is to retrieve the harpoon handle after you deploy the dart and it separates from the handle as it locks into the fish. In reality, you will never put more than a couple hundred pounds of pressure on the Shackle as typically you will just be retrieving the 7 lb harpoon with it. We offer 3 options:
No Shackle - Simply rig your retrieval line through the shackle hole
Dyneema Soft (Custom) Shackle [Optional Add-On: 5000 lb test breaking strength
316 Stainless Steel D Shackle 600 lb test breaking strength
Shackle choice is ultimately is a matter of preference and goes along with what rigging style you choose to go with. You can buy options on our Parts and Accessories page.
Dart Shaft Options
Our tried and true Harpoon Dart Retention System keeps the dart lightly tacked to the dart shaft with a single O-ring at the tip. During the “end game”, a missed harpoon shot could compromise the rigging and inadvertently create slack in the harpoon line. If using other harpoon brands, the dart itself could inadvertently fall off the harpoon dart shaft, prematurely. Lets face it, nobody wants a “premature release.” With our system, coupled with proper set up, this will not happen. Conversely, if you feel that this is too much retention for your rigging style, simply remove the O-Ring at the tip and run it naked.
3 Types of Darts to Choose From
Dart Option 1)
The Bronze Lily Dart (comes with your order, unless Penetrator is chosen)
The tried-and-true classic, Harpoon Lily Iron has been around for much longer than we have and has been successfully used to take large pelagic animals. Our harpoons come with the Bronze Lily Dart and are drilled for Straight Shaft (3/8") and lightly sharpened.
2 Types of Penetrator Harpoon Darts
The Penetrator Harpoon Dart combines the best qualities of the common Bronze Tuna Harpoon Dart and The West coast favorite Halibut Dart. It is constructed from brass and also available in Nickel-plated brass to combat corrosion. The Penetrator Dart measures 4.5” long. The Arrowhead design gives the Penetrator Dart the ability to pierce through gill plates, flesh, cartilage, and bone. In scenarios where the traditional bronze harpoon dart can fail to punch thru gill plates and tough flesh, the Penetrator Dart succeeds.
The aft end of the dart is flanged out on both sides and cupped to grab hold of flesh and pop off of the dart shaft evenly so you can avoid sticking the dart to the shaft. After harpooning a fish, the Penetrator dart will flip horizontally and buttonhole your quarry when the harpoon line is pulled tight. Even if the Penetrator Dart has not punched through it’s target, the rear flanges of the dart will dig into the flesh and embed the dart, to prevent it from pulling out, thus further ensuring the catch!
Dart Option 2)
The Corrosion-Resistent Nickel-Plated Brass Penetrator Harpoon Dart
The unrigged Nickel-Plated Brass Penetrator Dart can be rigged with a 1600 lb coated cable (shark proof) or 5000 lb Dyneema rope.
Dart Option 3)
The Brass Penetrator Harpoon Dart
The unrigged Brass Penetrator Dart can be rigged with 1600 lb coated cable (shark proof) or 5000 lb Dyneema rope.
